About Shot
John and Pat McCormick launched Puma Dart Products in Katikati, New Zealand, in 1970. The factory first made coir paper dartboards, then moved into darts and bristle boards. In 2009 the company launched the Shot brand for players outside New Zealand. It is still a family business: John's son Peter McCormick runs it.
Shot's best-known player is Michael Smith, the 2023 PDC World Champion, who joined in July 2023 and signed a long-term extension in 2024. Ritchie Edhouse, the 2024 European Champion, joined the Shot player team in February 2026.
What is Shot known for?
Shot designs, prototypes and makes its higher-end tungsten barrels at its own factory in Katikati: CAD design, CNC machining, grooving, coating, pointing and match weighting are all done in-house. That means Shot controls each grip pattern and finish from drawing to packing.
The company also made the Bandit, which it launched in 1991 as the first bladed dartboard. Thin blades between the segments instead of round wire leave less metal for a dart to hit, which reduces bounce-outs.
Which Shot range suits you?
Michael Smith. The Series II Turbo Point darts are Smith's signature set in 90% tungsten, with replaceable Turbo points.
Alchemy. Our newest Shot range: Auro in 95% tungsten for a slimmer barrel at a given weight, plus Mythril, Runstel and Volta in 90% tungsten, with matching Alchemy flights and points.
Badlands, Future Knights, Viking, Celt and Gnarly. Themed 90% tungsten ranges (Celt Merlin is 95%), each with a different barrel shape and grip. Most have matching flights, so the set can be kept consistent when flights wear out.
Points, flights and accessories. Turbo replacement points in several grips (Plain, Grip, Rocket, Scallop, Tribal Weapon, Kapene Gold Ti), Airfoil moulded flights, the Turbo motorised sharpener and the Lumen Core dartboard light.
Dartboards. The Bandit Gen 4 bladed bristle board.
